Slot Glossary

34 terms every slot player should know — explained with Cash Eruption examples where relevant. No marketing jargon.

Autoplay

A setting that spins the reels automatically for a set number of rounds. You pick how many spins and optional stop conditions (like stopping on a bonus trigger or when your balance drops below a threshold). Useful for grinding through base game spins without clicking every time.

Base Game

Regular gameplay before any bonus features trigger. Most of your spins happen here. In medium-high-volatility slots like Cash Eruption, the base game delivers moderate returns while you wait for Fireball Respin triggers.

Bonus Buy (Feature Buy)

Lets you skip the base game and jump directly into a bonus round for a fixed cost. Cash Eruption from IGT does not offer a bonus buy in most jurisdictions — IGT's US-licensed catalog typically excludes feature buys. Check your operator's menu to confirm.

Cascading Reels (Tumble)

After a win, winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into place. Cash Eruption does not use cascading reels — it pays on classic 20-payline spins. The replay action comes from Fireball Respins, not cascades.

Cluster Pays

Cash Eruption uses paylines, not clusters. Cluster pays would require connected groups of matching symbols rather than line wins. The closest mechanic is Free Spins mode where jumbo 3×3 symbols on reels 2-4 create line-style mega-wins.

Dead Spin

A spin that returns absolutely nothing — zero payout. In medium-high-volatility slots like Cash Eruption, dead spins happen but less often than ultra-high variance slots. IGT's design philosophy keeps base game hits frequent enough to bridge bonus triggers without long dry stretches.

Feature Trigger Rate

How often a bonus feature activates. Cash Eruption's Fireball Respins trigger roughly 1 in 160 spins — generous compared to ultra-high-variance slots. Free Spins fire even less often, around 1 in 200 spins on average. Both rates can be checked in IGT's published math sheet.

Free Spins

Bonus rounds triggered by 3+ Volcano Scatter symbols. Cash Eruption awards 8 to 15 free spins with a 2x line multiplier. The signature twist: reels 2, 3, and 4 merge into jumbo 3×3 symbols, creating oversized symbol blocks that line up across the 20 paylines.

Hit Frequency

How often a slot lands any winning combination. Cash Eruption has a hit frequency around 28-32% — about 1 in 3 spins pays something, even if just a small return. This sits at the higher end of medium-high volatility design, matching IGT's reputation for steady-paying slots.

Max Win

The absolute maximum a slot can pay on a single spin or feature. Cash Eruption caps at 1,000x — modest by modern slot standards but in line with IGT's traditional Vegas-style design. You hit this only by filling the entire 5×3 grid with Fireballs during the Respin Bonus, which carries the Grand Jackpot label.

Max Win Cap

The absolute cap on a single round's payout. Once Cash Eruption hits 1,000x, the Fireball Respin Bonus ends immediately even if you had more respins or fresh fireballs landing. The round closes, your balance updates, and you return to base game. This cap protects IGT's liability on the Grand Jackpot tier.

Megaways

A Big Time Gaming licensed mechanic with up to 117,649 ways to win. Cash Eruption uses 20 Lines on a 5×3 grid — a fixed payline system, not Megaways. IGT has its own jackpot mechanics rather than licensing BTG's variable-symbol math.

Multiplier

A value that multiplies your win. Cash Eruption's Free Spins mode applies a 2x line multiplier to all wins during the bonus. Jackpot Fireballs effectively act as multipliers too — the Major tier pays 200x your bet, the Grand pays 1,000x. The biggest multiplier comes from filling the full grid.

Paylines

Predefined lines across the reels where matching symbols form a win. Cash Eruption runs on 20 Lines on a 5×3 grid. Lines pay left-to-right starting from reel 1. All 20 lines are always active — you can't reduce the count.

Paytable

The reference chart showing each symbol's payout for 3, 4, or 5 of a kind. Access it through the game's info menu. Cash Eruption's premium symbols (Volcano, Tribal Mask, Aztec God) pay the most; card symbols (A, K, Q, J, 10) fill out the low end. Fireballs are special — they reveal cash values during the Respin Bonus.

RNG (Random Number Generator)

The algorithm that determines every spin outcome. IGT uses GLI-certified RNGs — independently audited and used in regulated US markets like Nevada and New Jersey. Each spin in Cash Eruption is independent of the last. The "due for a Fireball Respin" feeling is gambler's fallacy; the math doesn't remember your prior spins.

RTP (Return to Player)

The theoretical percentage of wagered money a slot returns over millions of spins. Cash Eruption runs at 96.00% — right at industry average. Some operators ship lower RTP variants (94% or 92%); always verify the exact number in the game info screen before you play.

Scatter

A special symbol that triggers features regardless of position. In Cash Eruption, the Volcano Scatter triggers Free Spins when 3 or more land on the same spin. Scatters pay regardless of paylines — they don't need to land on a specific line to count.

Session Variance

The gap between your actual results and the theoretical RTP. Cash Eruption has 96.00% RTP, but a 500-spin session can return anywhere from 50% to 200% of your wager. That's normal medium-high volatility behavior. The Fireball Respin bonus is what swings sessions — without one trigger, returns drag below RTP; with two or three, you finish well ahead.

Sticky Wild

A Wild symbol that stays in place across multiple spins. Cash Eruption doesn't use sticky wilds in the traditional sense — but the Fireball Respin mechanic is functionally similar: every Fireball "sticks" through the entire respin sequence, holding its position and value until the round ends.

Volatility (Variance)

How a slot's payouts are distributed. Cash Eruption is rated Medium-High volatility — meaning hits are reasonably frequent but the bigger payouts cluster in the Fireball Respin Bonus. Expect steady small wins between triggers, with the actual session bankroll swinging on whether you catch a respin or not.

Ways to Win

An alternative to paylines where matching adjacent-reel symbols count as wins regardless of row. Cash Eruption uses 20 Lines — fixed paylines, not ways-to-win. IGT's classic Vegas math kept the 20-line format because it produces predictable hit frequencies that match the brand's positioning.

Wild

A symbol that substitutes for any regular symbol to complete winning combinations. Cash Eruption's Wild only lands on the middle three reels (2, 3, 4) and expands to cover the entire reel when it appears. Wilds don't substitute for the Volcano Scatter or the Fireball symbols.

Win Distribution

How total payouts are spread across different win sizes. Medium-High-volatility slots like Cash Eruption are moderately top-heavy — Fireball Respins account for about 60% of the total RTP contribution while base game line wins handle the remaining 40%. Free Spins fall in between.

Bonus Buy Restrictions

Some countries ban purchasing bonus rounds directly. The UK prohibits bonus buy since October 2021. Cash Eruption doesn't offer a buy option anyway — IGT's distribution skews toward US-regulated markets where feature buys aren't standard.

Fireball Respin Bonus

IGT's signature Hold & Win mechanic. Land 6 or more Fireball symbols on a single spin and the bonus triggers — every Fireball locks in place revealing a cash value (1x to 50x your bet) or a jackpot label. You start with 3 respins; each new Fireball that lands resets the counter back to 3. The round ends when no fresh Fireballs appear or the entire 15-position grid fills.

Cash-Reveal Symbol

Each Fireball that locks during the Respin Bonus reveals a payout value. Standard cash values range from 1x to 50x your bet. Some Fireballs reveal jackpot tier labels instead — those pay the corresponding fixed amount. The reveal happens the moment the Fireball stops on a position, before the next respin.

Four-Tier Jackpot System

Cash Eruption's progressive jackpots stack on top of base cash values. Mini pays 15x your stake, Minor pays 50x, Major pays 200x, and the Grand pays the full 1,000x cap. Specific positions on the 5×3 grid carry the higher tiers — where a Fireball lands matters as much as how many you collect.

Grand Jackpot

The 1,000x prize awarded when every position in the 5×3 grid fills with Fireballs during a single Respin Bonus. Roughly 1 in 1,500 sessions trigger this outcome — extremely rare but the math is fixed. Once the grid is complete, the round ends immediately and the Grand pays out regardless of remaining respins.

Expanding Wild

Wild symbols in Cash Eruption only appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. When a Wild lands, it expands vertically to cover the entire reel — turning one symbol into three Wild positions. This dramatically boosts line-win frequency in the base game and stacks well with Free Spins' jumbo symbol mode.

Volcano Scatter

The scatter symbol in Cash Eruption. Three or more anywhere on the grid trigger Free Spins. The trigger is reasonably common — about 1 in 200 spins on average. Volcano Scatters can land on any reel, no payline restriction.

Jumbo Symbols (3×3 Mega Symbols)

During Free Spins in Cash Eruption, reels 2, 3, and 4 merge into a single jumbo position displaying 3×3 oversized symbols. One jumbo symbol effectively occupies 9 grid cells at once, creating massive line-up potential across the 20 paylines. This is the mechanic that turns Free Spins into the most consistent payout mode outside of Fireball Respins.

Counter Reset (Hold & Win)

A core Hold & Win mechanic. Cash Eruption starts the Respin Bonus with 3 respins. Every time at least one new Fireball lands, the counter resets to 3 — extending the round potentially indefinitely. The round only ends when an entire respin completes with zero new Fireballs landing, or the grid fully fills.

IGT Vegas-Style Math

IGT's design philosophy emphasizes consistent hit frequency over chasing extreme max wins. Cash Eruption's 1,000x cap is modest compared to crypto-era slots reaching 25,000x or higher — but the trade-off is more frequent feature triggers and steadier bankroll behavior, which suits land-based casino regulars who play long sessions.
